Whether you’re going on a long road trip, or commuting to your everyday job, there are some essential things you should keep on hand if you ever find yourself in a pickle. We have composed a checklist of five things that you may or may not have in your car that you may want to think about including in your glove compartment!
Jumper Cables
Alright, assuming you know how to jumpstart a car, you never know when jumper cables may come in handy. Car batteries die-sometimes unexpectedly- and you don’t want to have to call roadside assistance for something that can be an easy fix with the right tools. It can be a big inconvenience and you likely have more important things to worry about! It can also be helpful if you encounter another motorist in need- make a difference in someone else’s day with some humanitarian aid!
Flashlight
If you break down at night, you’ll need a way to see your surroundings. Choose a flashlight that provides a lot of illumination, and carry extra batteries just in case. It also helps if you pull over for a pit stop in the middle of nowhere or feel like taking a night stroll on the beach somewhere. You never know when a flashlight might come in handy!
Reusable Grocery Bags
Maybe this is the tree hugger in me, but there are even more uses for reusable grocery bags than for the environment. Many states have banned the use of plastic grocery bags, or charge extra for them. Carrying groceries is the obvious top reason to keep these sturdy bags in your vehicle at all times, but if you find yourself with your hands full on any occasion you may find use for these.
Phone Charger
As a society, we rely on our cell phones for many things. Many of us would be lost without the GPS features of smartphones, so it is extremely important to have a fully charged device. In an emergency, you may also use it to call for help.
Water and Non-Perishable Snack Items
Though the temperature may negatively affect these items, you still want to have some in your car! If something happens and you are stuck for an extended period of time these are basic survival needs. Further, if you have children or other passengers it’s nice to be prepared with hydration and fuel.
